After selecting Thomas Chabot with the 18th overall pick, the Ottawa Senators came right back with the 21st pick and took centre Colin White from the US National Development Program. While they made their selection, Travis Konecny, Nick Merkley, and Oliver Kylington were still on the board. Senators fans were eagerly hoping they would pick one of them even at 18, but instead they chose to play it safe with White at 21.
