Zack Smith was getting in one of his final informal skates Monday before the work begins in earnest for the Senators later this week.
With training camp set to open Thursday with medicals and physicals at the Canadian Tire Centre after an off-season that started in early-April, the Senators centre can’t wait to get back to playing after having a career year with 25 goals and 11 assists for 36 points in 81 games in 2015-16.
Smith has already had his face-to-face meeting with new coach Guy Boucher to outline his expectations for the upcoming season and the 28-year-old is fully aware of what he’s going to have to do to have a successful showing that will help get the Senators back to the playoffs.
