Here's a ranking of the five biggest trades in Ottawa Senators history:
1. June 23: 2001: Senators trade Alexei Yashin to the New York Islanders for Zdeno Chara, Bill Muckalt and the 2001 second overall draft pick (Jason Spezza)
Then-Senators GM Marshall Johnston deserves credit for pulling off a remarkable steal of a deal. Yashin was the organization’s first true star, a centre who could dominate the game with his size and skill. For all that talent, he was a problem child for the Senators, a playoff no-show who was constantly trying to renegotiate his contract, sitting out the entire 1999-2000 season.
