LOS ANGELES — Wade Redden paused a few seconds Thursday when told that Ottawa Senators captain Erik Karlsson had smashed his record to become the career scoring leader among Senators defencemen.
“I don’t know what took him so long,” Redden said, with a laugh, during a telephone call from his home in Kelowna, B.C. “I watch. I keep an eye on the Senators, for sure. He’s such a huge part of that team and he has changed the position in a lot of ways. He’s so dynamic.”
For those who didn’t stay up into the wee hours of the morning Thursday to watch the Senators’ 4-2 win over the San Jose Sharks, Karlsson tied Redden’s old record of 410 points with an early assist on Mark Stone’s power-play goal.
