In response to their overwhelmed centre depth, the Ottawa Senators made a depth acquisition earlier in the evening, acquiring 6’0 forward Dylan Gambrell from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a 2022 seventh-round pick, one which originally belonged to San Jose.
Gambrell, 25, has spent the past two seasons as a low-event (poor offensively, good defensively) fourth-line centre for the Sharks, putting up 5 goals and 7 assists in 49 games in 2020-21. While he brings a lot of what Ottawa already has, he has more recent NHL experience than others on the roster, such as Logan Shaw and Scott Sabourin, and isn’t an old player by any means.
