NEWARK, N.J. — Nelson Pyatt marvels at how upscale the NHL has become.
Pyatt, the father of Senators winger Tom Pyatt, scored 71 goals and 63 assists in 296 games with Detroit, Washington and Colorado during his NHL career in the 1970s and 80s.
That was then, this is now. In a lighthearted way, he offered up his own back-in-my-day tale.
“It’s totally different from when I played,” said the elder Pyatt. “When I played, we flew commercial and they’ve got the private jets. They sure treat these kids well.”
He also joked about the NHL being short for the Never Hungry League.
