Little was expected of the Ottawa Senators at the outset of the current NHL season. Plagued by poor on-ice performances that saddled the club with their worst regular-season record in over two decades, the Senators opened their schedule as a favorite to win the race to the bottom of the NHL standings. The club has also had to adjust to life without superstar defenseman Erik Karlsson and sniper Mike Hoffman.
But while plenty of time remains for the Senators to take the lead in the upcoming Jack Hughes Sweepstakes, the club has been competitive during the first quarter of the campaign, picking up points in 12 of their first 22 outings.
