Neil honoured as Senators fall to Sharks in shootout

It began as a celebration to honour Chris Neil for his 1,000th game, but it end in disappointment for the Senators.

Unfortunately, Neil couldn’t write a storybook ending.

After Neil didn’t score on his first shootout attempt of his career, Kevin Labanc put it away as he scored in the skills contest to give the San Jose Sharks a 4-3 decision over the Senators in front of 17,273 on Wednesday night at the Canadian Tire Centre to put a damper on what had been a pretty good night.

Although Dion Phaneuf gave the Senators the lead on the power play with 3:46 left in the third, the Senators couldn’t hold on as Chris Tierney tied it up with 2:28 remaining to send it to OT.
