There was something magical about the 2016-17 Senators that didn’t exist when the club advanced to the East final in 2003 or 2007. This team arrived in camp with no expectations and got to within one shot of moving to the Stanley Cup final against the defending champion Pittsburgh Penguins.
The trip — which lasted 43 days, included 22 hotel nights in three different cities and 10,880 kilometres — was fun because this group was special.
