ANAHEIM, CALIF. - The Hamburglar was trying to make the most out of the mess in front of him.
After Senators coach Guy Boucher showed starting goaltender Mike Condon some mercy by getting him out of the mess, Andrew Hammond finally got a chance to get back into the net.
Hammond played the final two periods of the Senators’ 5-1 defeat to Anaheim, allowing two goals on 19 shots.
The game was long gone by the time Hammond arrived, but it meant plenty to him. It was his first NHL action since Oct. 28. Since then, Hammond has endured a groin injury, lost his back-up job to Condon, cleared NHL waivers and been assigned to Binghamton of the AHL twice.
