SUNRISE, FLA. — - Hall of Fame defenceman Denis Potvin remains a huge fan of Ottawa Senators captain Erik Karlsson.
“To me, he’s the best defenceman in the league, without a doubt,” said Potvin, back to broadcasting the Florida Panthers on Tuesday after being part of the NHL’s 100 greatest players celebration at the all-star game in Los Angeles last weekend. “I’ve always liked so many things about his game, but the thing has impressed me and surprised me is his physical strength.”
Karlsson is also closing in on the rarest of accomplishments.
If the Senators captain wins the team scoring title again — he led the club with 39 points before the puck dropped against the Panthers — he will become only the second defenceman in NHL history to lead his team in that category for four consecutive years.
