OTTAWA — Dave Cameron fired back after getting fired.
The former Senators coach, let go Tuesday, told reporters he hasn’t spoken with Ottawa owner Eugene Melnyk since being canned and knew it was only a matter of time before he was gone after public comments three weeks ago.
“That was hurtful,” Cameron said Thursday at the Canadian Tire Cetnre. “I didn’t feel any need for it. I felt like I was fired for three weeks ... everyday.”
Melnyk had made pointed remarks when asked about the season.
“It was inconsistency and some stupidity,” said Melnyk, who then pointed at Cameron’s decision in Game 2 of the season to start rookie goalie Matt O’Connor.
