Luke Richardson is taking a detour overseas in his quest to become a National Hockey League head coach.
As part of the Canadian coaching staff for the Deutschland Cup in Germany Nov. 4-6, the door could also open to further international coaching opportunities.
“I’ve had a chance to play for Hockey Canada in the past and this is a good opportunity to experience the other side of it,” said Richardson, a 21-year NHL veteran who had spent the past four seasons as head coach of the Senators’ American Hockey League affiliate in Binghamton.
The Ottawa native won gold for Canada at the 1994 world championship in Italy and silver for Canada at the 1996 championship in Austria.
