Not only will Daniel Alfredsson have a spot in the Senators’ front office, he’ll also play a role with Team Sweden at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
While the Swedes named Rikard Gronborg, Johan Garpenlov and Peter Popovic as the club’s coaches for the World Cup in a press conference Tuesday in Stockholm, the organization also confirmed former Detroit captain Nick Lidstrom, Toronto Maple Leafs’ captain Mats Sundin and Alfredsson will serve as advisors to the coaching staff.
Exactly what advisory role the three Swedish legends will play won’t be ironed until officials with the organization have had a chance to sit down with the trio.
