The captain could be coming back in an off-ice role.
League sources told the Sun the former Senators’ captain Daniel Alfredsson, who hung up his skates Dec. 4, 2014, during an emotional ceremony at the Canadian Tire Centre, met with Ottawa GM Bryan Murray Thursday and is expected to sit down with him again next month to hammer out a role in the club’s hockey operations department.
While Ian Mendes of TSN 1200 reported the two sides are expected to announce a deal before camp, sources say the 42-year-old Alfredsson will only have a limited role next season because he’s expected to remain in Detroit with his family before it’s believed he’ll move back to Ottawa for the 2016-17 campaign.
