For the first time in many years, there’s actually a debate over which player is No. 1 in the NHL.
Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins has been the undisputed top player for a long time, but Edmonton’s Connor McDavid has changed all that by winning a scoring title and Hart Trophy at age 20 in 2016-17.
Crosby is now 30 and will surely relinquish his No. 1 status soon.
Has it happened yet?
The answer lies in this year’s edition of our annual Postmedia top-50 NHL players:
1. Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh (1)
McDavid is right there, but back-to-back Conn Smythe Trophies, league high in goals allow Crosby to keep top ranking.
