Who was the Senators’ backup Wednesday night in Buffalo?
It couldn’t have been Craig Anderson, because at least twice in the past week — and probably more, considering he does his interviews in both official languages — coach Guy Boucher made his goaltending plans crystal clear.
“When he’s here,” Boucher has said about Anderson, “he’s in.”
Lo and behold, Anderson was there, and wasn’t so much “in” as he was “on” the end of the bench, wearing a ball cap instead of a mask and helmet as the Senators took on the Sabres.
Why he watched, as Mike Condon started, is a mystery — and a needlessly dangerous call in an important game.
