Bryan Murray could soon make a decision on whether he'll remain as Senators GM, stay with the team in a part-time advisory capacity or retire when his contract expires at the end of the season.
"He knows when he's got to bring somebody new in, if he's not going to be involved," Senators owner Eugene Melnyk said Friday.
"If he is going to be involved in some way, he'll know the right time (to make the announcement).
"We have a lot of things that start in the beginning of the year, including (getting ready for) the draft, any final trades that we might want to do, budgets, all that stuff.
