OTTAWA — Ben Sexton was effectively born into the Ottawa Senators franchise, but good friend Mark Borowiecki offered up his own welcome-to-the organization message Saturday.
During the instrasquad scrimmage, Borowiecki did what he does to anyone who skates into his territory, bouncing Sexton off the boards with a solid body check. Sexton pushed back and the two skated away laughing, long-time Kanata natives respecting the hard-nosed nature of each other’s games.
“That’s just the way he plays, that’s why he’s here,” said Sexton, with a wide smile.
Sexton, a 26-year-old centre/winger who signed with the Senators as a free agent on July 1, has a goal of one day joining Borowiecki on the Senators roster.
