OTTAWA - The Belleville Senators are going back to school Friday. If they didn’t know it already, they’ll learn just how competitive Canadian university hockey is.
The Senators’ AHL squad, which is practicing together at Canadian Tire Centre this week, will take on the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees in what again figures to be an intriguing match-up.
Belleville general manager Randy Lee says the level of Canadian University hockey is often underestimated.
“Absolutely, especially by some of the U.S. college players,” said Lee.
“They don’t realize how good CIS hockey is. The games (between AHL and U Sports teams) are very competitive and the players take it very serious.
