The big debate in Ottawa this week surrounded the future of the downtown arena at LeBreton Flats for the Senators.
Both bidders for the valuable land just west of downtown have included an NHL arena in their plans because the belief in Ottawa is if the Senators are going to have success down the road, they need to be closer to downtown.
While the Canadian Tire Centre has served as a good home since 1996, people want the Senators closer to where the action is. There will be plenty at LeBreton in 2018 because that will be the hub for the new light-rail transit system in Ottawa that Sens owner Eugene Melnyk calls “a game-changer.
