As the qualifying offer deadline approached, the only question that remained was as to whether Alex Chiasson would be qualified or not. Patrick Wiercioch was not going to be qualified at $2.7M, and the rest of the RFAs clearly were going to be qualified (all of this has been confirmed). The Sens answered the final question by shipping Chiasson's rights off to the Calgary Flames, receiving prospect defenceman Pat Sieloff in return.
Chiasson never really clicked in Ottawa after coming over from the Stars in the Jason Spezza trade, putting up only 40 points in 153 games, a far cry from the seven points in seven games to start his NHL career.
