On this day in NHL history...
It was December 6th, 1990 in Palm Beach that the NHL Board of Governors awarded a conditional franchise in Ottawa to Terrace Investments. They had gone in as a long shot but threw everything they could at the chance, including the Ottawa Fire Department marching band playing outside the meeting itself.
In the end, it was all but a sure thing based on one factor - they were willing to pay what the NHL was asking, on the schedule the league had set.
That day marked the successful end of the "Bring back the Senators" dream, and the birth of the franchise we know and love.
