The Detroit Red Wings will honor the late Matthew Wuest (founder of CapGeek) by renaming the trophy awarded to the NHL Prospect Tournament champion the Matthew Wuest Memorial Cup.
Along with Wuest's work at CapGeek, tracking the salary information for all 30 NHL teams as well as accumulating historical data, Wuest created and maintained RedWingsCentral which provided rankings, scouting profiles and features focused on Red Wings prospects. He also curated statistical data, some of which was proprietary, about the players in the Traverse City tournament starting with its inception in 1998. Wuest, who lost his two-year battle with colon cancer at age 35 in March, was an integral part of the hockey community.
