Former NFL wide receiver Plaxico Burress has been indicted on charges that he failed to pay nearly $50,000 in New Jersey state income taxes.
According to James McEvoy of the Times of Trenton, Burress is facing one count of issuing a bad check or electronic funds transfer and one count of willful failure to pay state tax. If convicted, the 37-year-old would face a maximum penalty of five years in state prison and a $15,000 fine.
Burress reportedly filed his 2013 state income tax return with the New Jersey Division of Taxation, but an electronic payment that was supposed to cover the $47,903 he owed to the state did not go through.
