A week into the National Hockey League playoffs, social media streaming has caused a stir.
The league on Tuesday warned news mediato stop using apps like Periscope and Meerkat during or around games at the risk of violating broadcast rules, Yahoo Sports reported. Some credentialed media have live-streamed warm-ups or breaks in games to Twitter followers, which is what the two apps make possible, through a cell phone.
In a memo issued Tuesday, NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said that live-streaming in an arena less than 30 minutes before a game was "expressly prohibited," according to Yahoo.
