NEWARK, N.J. - New Jersey Devils scouting director David Conte has left the team by mutual agreement.
Ray Shero, who took over as Devils general manager in May when Lou Lamoriello relinquished those duties, announced Conte's departure in a statement Thursday. Conte has been with the organization for 31 years.
"David and I have had numerous discussions regarding his future. Based on our conversations, I believe it is in the best interests of our organization for David to pursue other opportunities and to not renew his contract," said Shero. "His contributions to the success of the hockey operations department have been immense.
