Give Jon Lester two points for creativity and one point for getting the out.
The Chicago Cubs starter showed some ingenuity Sunday by throwing his entire glove to first base to record an out on a fielder’s choice by Clint Barmes in the second inning of the Padres’ 5-2 win over the Cubbies. Anthony Rizzo deserves some points for the assist as he wisely dropped his glove in order to catch Lester’s.
Unfortunately, making that play wasn’t enough for Lester as he gave up a 2-run home run to Will Middlebrooks earlier in the inning and took the loss to drop to 0-2.
