Joe Maddon was ejected during the seventh inning of Friday’s Cubs-Padres game after getting furious with the umpires for missing a big call prior to a home run that cost his team.
Maddon’s Cubs were up 4-2 in the seventh when the controversial call occurred at Wrigley Field. Pitcher Brian Schlitter had Wil Myers 0-2 and threw a fastball low for what looked like strike three. The Cubs did not get the strike call, and instead the count became 1-2. Myers took the next pitch deep to center for a game-winning 3-run home run.
When Maddon came out, he absolutely lost it on homeplate umpire Sam Holbrook and blamed the umpire for costing them all five runs in the 5-4 loss.
