Funding to celebrate women's soccer win flops

Corporate sponsorship for the parade celebrating the three-time World Cup champion U.S. women's soccer team fell far below the goal, according to a report by the New York Post.

The women's team, which "drew the most TV viewers for any soccer game in US history," has only seen $450,000 from corporate sponsors like Nike to fund the ticker-tape parade in Manhattan Friday, the Post reported.

The parade will cost $2 million. To compensate for the lack of corporate funding, New York City is prepared to pay as much as $1.
