The Pirates had already been planning to give Hanson some reps at third, but injuries to Josh Harrison (thumb) and Jordy Mercer (knee) have moved the timeline up. Hanson would probably need at least a couple weeks of experience at the position before the Pirates considered promoting him, and at that point they might have already traded for infield help. Still, it's notable. Hanson, 22, has hit .286/.332/.421 with five homers and 25 steals at Indy this season.
