PRAGUE - Canada will face Belarus in the quarter-finals of the world hockey championship after closing out the round robin Tuesday with a 10-1 rout of Austria.
The 7-0 Canadians finish the preliminary round with a perfect record for the first time since 2008.
Matt Duchene and Jason Spezza each scored twice for the Canadians. Goaltender Mike Smith turned aside 10 shots.
Tyson Barrie opened the scoring for Canada at the 6:04 mark of the first period. Duchene’s third goal of the tournament at 9:09 proved to be the game-winner as Canada led 4-0 after 20 minutes on goals from Taylor Hall and Aaron Ekblad.
