Tonya Carpenter, the woman who was struck by a broken bat during a Boston Red Sox-Oakland A’s game at Fenway Park on Friday night, is still recovering in the hospital and has been upgraded to fair condition. A bouquet of flowers from Brett Lawrie has helped lift her spirits.
Lawrie is the player whose broken bat hit Carpenter, leaving her bloody and with life-threatening injuries. He sent flowers to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center on Tuesday.
“Sending my thoughts and prayers,” Lawrie wrote in a message to Carpenter.
That’s an incredibly classy gesture from Lawrie, who also expressed concern for Carpenter after Friday’s game.
