Relief pitcher Alex Torres has once again chosen safety over style, and once again he has been mocked as a result.
Torres, who recorded out No. 27 for the save in the Mets’ 5-4 win over the Marlins Saturday, wore a new protective safety cap while pitching. He also made headlines last year for wearing an oversized protective cap while pitching for the Padres.
According to the New York Daily News, Torres received the hat Saturday, just in time for the game. It is a pad that fits over his normal cap and connects in the back via Velcro.
