This was most important NBA Draft in Orlando Magic history | Commentary

No more moaning and droning about, “If we had just been one spot higher, we could have had Trae Young instead of Mo Bamba.”

The Magic were at the ground floor of yet another rebuild during Thursday night’s NBA Draft, but this time it was absolutely imperative that they get it right.

And you know what? Maybe, at long last, they finally did when electric Gonzaga combo guard Jalen Suggs fell to them with the No. 5 overall pick and then they plucked Michigan’s still-growing 6-foot-11 forward Franz Wagner with their No. 8 overall pick.

“I don’t have much to say other than it was a great night for the Magic,” said Jeff Weltman, the team’s president of basketball operations.
