ORLANDO – Wednesday’s matchup between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers gave us an opportunity to watch a showdown at the point guard position.
First, there was Cameron Payne, the more conventional point guard who thrives with his playmaking abilities and craftiness inside. Then, there was Joe Young, a natural scorer trying to adapt to being more of a floor general.
Perhaps comfort won out as Payne outshined Young and the Thunder rolled to an 89-71 victory at the 2016 Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League.
Payne’s precision and attention to detail was impressive as he finished with 19 points, six assists and three steals.
