Stan Gundy is commonly considered one of the most astute basketball coaching minds in the NBA.
And, yet, sadly these two coaching brains were at Amway Center on Wednesday night matching wits in a meaningless regular-season finale while pulling the plug on a massively disappointing season for both.
It seems the old Magic coach and the new Magic coach are still feeling the debilitating effects of that ugly Stan-Magic divorce five years ago that indirectly put both men in the frustrating situation they found themselves in on Wednesday night.
“This has been a year of misery for me,” says Van Gundy, whose Detroit Pistons were beaten 113-109 by the Magic and took a significant step backward this season after making the playoffs a year ago.
