ORLANDO – Jeff Weltman, a highly successful NBA front-office executive over the past 28 years, was hired on Monday as the Orlando Magic’s new President of Basketball Operations, according to various media reports.
Weltman, the executive vice president of basketball operations for Toronto Raptors since July 2, 2013, will run the Magic’s Basketball Operations department. The Magic fired GM Rob Hennigan and assistant GM Scott Perry on April 13 – a day after the team’s disappointing 29-53 season ended.
Matt Lloyd, who has run the team’s draft preparation since the front-office shakeup last month, is still with the Magic and will be a candidate for the team’s full-time GM job.
