ATLANTA — The Orlando Magic have chosen Lakeland as the home of their new NBA Development League affiliate.
Team officials will hold a press conference Wednesday morning to announce the decision.
The D-League affiliate will play its games at The Lakeland Center.
Magic officials have said they want their new affiliate to begin play during the 2017-18 season.
The Magic are in the final year of a three-year affiliation agreement with the Erie BayHawks, who are based in northwestern Pennsylvania. The Magic have sent several players to Erie in recent years — including rookie center Stephen Zimmerman — but the distance between Erie and Orlando has prevented the Magic from utilizing their affiliate more often.
