The organization and Clifford “mutually agreed” to part ways Saturday, as was reiterated several times during an afternoon video press conference with Jeff Weltman, Magic president of basketball operations.
“The way we released this is quite genuine. We’ve had a mutually parting of ways,” Magic president Jeff Weltman said. “[Clifford] helped us move the team forward and we have had a good relationship with him and, organizationally and personally, wish him nothing but the best going forward.
Clifford’s departure comes after three seasons coaching the Magic, who made the playoffs in his first two years but stumbled to a record of 21-51 this past season.
