NEW YORK — Whenever coaches gather Orlando Magic big men for shooting drills in practice, the competitiveness rises within the gym.
"We definitely don't want to be the guy — don't be that guy — that misses," Jason Smith said.
The thing is, they rarely miss.
The farther Channing Frye, Andrew Nicholson, Nik Vucevic and Smith drift from the hoop on offense, the more effective they become relative to everyone else. Frye and Nicholson bedevil opponents with their 3-point shooting, while Vucevic and Smith inflict damage with their mid-range games.
