Elfrid Payton would be the first person to say he and his family were fortunate when Hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana 11 years ago.
Everyone stayed safe.
His parents evacuated the family to Memphis, Tenn., away from the brutal storm.
The storm still impacted them, though.
Payton and his family monitored the dreadful, gut-wrenching television images from their hometown of New Orleans. They feared for the safety of anyone who had remained in the New Orleans area.
"It was depressing to watch," Payton said. "[The area] not being prepared for the situation, not even having the resources.
