The Orlando Magic will honor Juneteenth on Friday and will join the NBA for a virtual watch party for a film that examines the life and accomplishments of civil rights activist and former U.S. Congressman John Lewis.
The Magic will close their offices on Friday to celebrate Juneteenth, an annual holiday observing the end of slavery in the U.S. Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day and Liberation Day, marks the day (June 19, 1865) when news of emancipation – enacted on Jan. 1, 1863 – was delivered to the deepest parts of the former Confederacy in Galveston, Texas, according to britannica.
