The Orlando Magic announced Wednesday they have agreed to purchase a NBA Development League franchise and will relocate it to Lakeland.
The D-League affiliate will play its games at The Lakeland Center beginning in the 2017-18 season, team said.
The Magic are in the final year of a three-year D-League affiliation agreement with the Erie BayHawks, who are based in northwestern Pennsylvania. In Wednesday’s announcement, the Magic said they have agreed to purchase the BayHawks and will relocate them to Florida. With the purchase, the Magic become the 17th NBA team to own and operate their NBA D-League affiliate.
