ORLANDO – Markelle Fultz was the No. 1 overall pick in the draft a couple years ago mostly because of his potential on the offensive end of the floor. What we have learned through his first three preseason games with the Magic, who acquired the 6-foot-4, 210-pounder at the trade deadline last season, is that he also has a chance to be special on the other side, too.
From deflecting away passes to stripping the ball away from ball handlers and from getting around screens to contesting shots, Fultz has pretty much done it all. Although he struggled with his shot during Wednesday’s win over the Hawks, going 2-of-10 from the field, that didn’t prevent the 21-year-old from being tenacious on defense.
