Rob Hennigan has avoided risk in his three prior drafts as the Orlando Magic's general manager.
In 2012, he selected Andrew Nicholson instead of Jared Sullinger, a more highly rated power forward who had an issue with his back.
In 2013, Hennigan picked Victor Oladipo over Nerlens Noel, who was recovering from a serious knee injury.
Last year, Hennigan favored Aaron Gordon over Julius Randle, who faced questions about one of his feet. Hennigan also wanted Elfrid Payton over a player from Australia, Danté Exum.
To be sure, other considerations were involved, too. Nicholson, Oladipo, Gordon and Payton have other characteristics, including smarts and toughness, that catapulted them into the forefront of Hennigan's thinking.
