One of the Orlando Magic’s biggest priorities in 2014-15 revolved around their rookie point guard, Elfrid Payton.
Payton had played three seasons of college basketball at a mid-major school, Louisiana-Lafayette, and it would’ve been reasonable for him to struggle with the transition to the NBA.
But aside from a few down stretches, Payton turned out to be one of the Magic’s biggest success stories of the season. He was the Magic’s most durable player, showed an uncommonly high maturity level for a rookie and placed fourth in the NBA Rookie of the Year voting.
