Piecing a roster together in terms of the salary cap is a tricky thing.
Planning for the present and the future at the same time takes careful management and a bit of predictive foresight. A team cannot tie up its cap room forever. At some point a player makes too much money and they have to be let go so that others can get theirs.
At the end of the day, the best players take up the majority of a team’s cap. No matter who it is, the max players get their share. The salary cap limits it to 30 percent of the cap.
