Vogel spent the last five and a half seasons as head coach of the Indiana Pacers, leading them to a 250-181 record and five playoff appearances - including two trips to the Eastern Conference Finals.
According to Robbins, Vogel was exactly the kind of coach Orlando was looking for - "someone who emphasizes the defensive end of the court and someone who relates well to players."
He had also received serious interest from the Memphis Grizzlies, but Vogel reportedly liked the Magic job more because of their young, talented roster.
Scott Skiles surprisingly resigned as head coach of the Magic after just one season due to his grievances with the front office.
