Coach Josh Heupel called the UCF’s effort against the Cougars one of the best defensive performances of the season, which is impressive when you consider the Knights competed without four starters — including defensive tackle Kenny Turnier, defensive end Randy Charlton, linebacker Eric Mitchell and defensive back Antwan Collier.
All four players along with injured defensive back Brandon Moore did not make the trip to Houston. Collier was arrested by campus police Thursday and charged with carrying a concealed firearm without a license and driving with a suspended or revoked license, according to Orange County court records.
“I thought some young guys had an opportunity to step up,” Heupel said.
